Binomipilvi is a concept in statistical visualization used to describe a cloud‑like pattern that can appear when plotting two binomial estimates or two proportions on a two‑dimensional plane. It is not a probability distribution itself, but a graphical representation that helps convey how sampling variability, boundary constraints, and the relationship between the two estimates shape their joint behavior.

Etymology and history. The term blends binomial, referencing binomial outcomes, with pilvi, the Finnish word for cloud, to evoke the visual impression of a dispersed cluster. The concept has appeared in data visualization and statistics education materials since the early 21st century, where it is discussed as a didactic device rather than a formal statistical model.

Visualization and interpretation. In a Binomipilvi plot, each point corresponds to a pair of estimated proportions (or counts converted to proportions) from two related samples or two competing estimates. The cloud tends to lie within the unit square [0,1]×[0,1] and its shape is influenced by sample size, the similarity of the underlying probabilities, and the degree of correlation between the estimates. When the two estimates are similar, the cloud concentrates along the diagonal; when they differ, the cloud expands away from the diagonal. Boundary effects near 0 and 1 can produce crescent or tapering edges.

Applications and limitations. Binomipilvi is primarily a teaching and exploratory tool to visualize uncertainty and the effects of sampling variability in binomial settings.
