bibliometrix

Bibliometrix is an open-source R package and companion web interface designed for quantitative bibliometrics and scientometrics research. It provides tools to import, clean, and analyze bibliographic data from major databases such as Web of Science and Scopus, as well as BibTeX and RIS exports. The package supports the full workflow of bibliometric analysis, including descriptive statistics, network analysis, and science mapping, and it can generate publication-ready visualizations and tables.

Key features include data management functions to extract authors, affiliations, journals, keywords, and cited references; a range of indicators such as yearly production, h-index, collaboration networks, and most relevant sources; and methods for mapping science through co-authorship, co-citation, and bibliographic coupling analyses. It also offers thematic mapping and conceptual structure analysis to explore research topics and their evolution over time.

Bibliometrix is complemented by a Shiny-based web interface called Biblioshiny, which provides a point-and-click workflow that mirrors the package’s analytical steps. The project emphasizes interoperability with the R ecosystem, leveraging packages such as igraph and ggplot2 to produce visual outputs and enabling reproducible workflows through R scripts. It is widely used in academia for literature reviews, performance assessment, and trend studies, and it continues to be maintained and expanded by its developers and user community. As open-source software, it is freely available on CRAN and the project's repository.
