A belichtingsschema, or exposure program, is a setting on a digital camera that controls the aperture and shutter speed combination. It is a system that the camera uses to achieve a correct exposure for a photograph. Different belichtingsschema offer varying levels of creative control and automation.

Program AE (P) is a fully automatic mode where the camera selects both aperture and shutter speed. While it simplifies shooting, it offers minimal creative input. Aperture Priority (A or Av) allows the photographer to choose the aperture, controlling the depth of field, while the camera automatically sets the shutter speed for proper exposure. This is useful for achieving blurry backgrounds or sharp images throughout.

Shutter Priority (S or Tv) lets the photographer select the shutter speed, which determines how motion is captured (freezing action or showing motion blur), while the camera automatically adjusts the aperture. This is ideal for sports photography or capturing the movement of water. Manual Mode (M) gives the photographer complete control over both aperture and shutter speed, offering the highest degree of creative freedom but requiring a good understanding of exposure.

Understanding and utilizing different belichtingsschema allows photographers to move beyond simple point-and-shoot photography and make deliberate creative choices to achieve their desired photographic results.
