Bedstefarparadokset, also known as the grandfather paradox, is a thought experiment in philosophy and physics concerning the possibility of time travel. It explores the logical inconsistencies that arise if one were to travel back in time and alter an event that would prevent their own existence.

The paradox is typically framed as follows: Imagine a person travels back in time and, intentionally or accidentally, causes the death of their own grandfather before he met their grandmother. If the grandfather dies, then the traveler's parent would never have been born, and consequently, the traveler themselves would never have been born. However, if the traveler was never born, then they could not have traveled back in time to prevent their grandfather's meeting with their grandmother. This creates a causal loop that appears to be logically impossible.

Various theoretical solutions have been proposed to resolve the grandfather paradox. One common suggestion is that the universe would inherently prevent such a paradox from occurring. This could manifest as the time traveler being unable to complete the action, or external factors intervening to prevent the paradoxical outcome. Another approach suggests the existence of parallel universes or alternate timelines. In this scenario, the time traveler's actions in the past would create a new timeline where they were never born, but their original timeline, from which they departed, would remain unaffected.

Another perspective is that time travel to the past might simply be impossible, thus rendering the paradox moot.
