Operation depends on electric motors or gear drives that power the belt, with tensioning devices maintaining grip. Throughput is controlled by belt width, speed and the belt’s inclination, with troughing angles typically designed for the material.

Applications span mining, agriculture, food processing, manufacturing and distribution centers. Advantages include continuous flow, high capacity, and gentle handling of many products; disadvantages include belt wear, spillage, space requirements and maintenance needs.

Design and maintenance considerations include selecting appropriate belt width and speed, specifying material and reinforcement, ensuring proper alignment, tensioning and tracking, and implementing safety measures such as guards and emergency stops.
