Bandbreedt is a term that is not widely standardized in technical literature. In many Dutch-language sources it appears as a misspelling or variant of bandbreedte, which translates to bandwidth in English. As a coined or informal term, bandbreedt may be encountered in writing without a fixed definition. When used in general discussions about telecommunications, the concept it most closely resembles is bandwidth.

Bandwidth is the capacity of a communications link to carry data per unit time. In digital networks, it is typically measured in bits per second, with common scales such as kbps, Mbps, and Gbps. Bandwidth describes the potential data rate, while latency refers to delay, and throughput to the actual amount of data successfully transferred, which can be lower than the theoretical bandwidth because of protocol overhead and network conditions. In analog and radio contexts, bandwidth also refers to the width of the frequency spectrum occupied by a signal, measured in hertz.

Bandwidth depends on the physical medium and technologies used, including fiber, copper, wireless, and satellite links. It is influenced by modulation schemes, coding, distance, interference, and congestion. Management practices such as traffic shaping, quality of service, and throttling affect the usable bandwidth for different applications. In consumer networks, bandwidth is commonly reflected in advertised download and upload speeds, with actual performance varying by devices and network topology.
