Ballontágítók, also known as angioplasty balloons or percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) balloons, are medical devices used in a minimally invasive procedure to widen narrowed or blocked blood vessels. These balloons are typically made of a flexible, non-compliant material that can withstand high pressure. They are mounted on a thin, flexible catheter.

The procedure involves inserting the catheter carrying the deflated balloon through a small incision, usually in the groin or arm, and guiding it to the site of the blockage using imaging techniques. Once in position, the balloon is inflated with air or saline to a specific pressure. This inflation compresses the plaque buildup against the artery walls, effectively widening the vessel and restoring blood flow. After the vessel is dilated, the balloon is deflated and withdrawn, often leaving a stent in place to help keep the artery open.

Ballontágítók are commonly used to treat conditions like coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, and valvular heart disease. They offer an alternative to more invasive surgical procedures, with benefits including shorter recovery times and reduced risk of complications.
