Origins of Bakandr are traced to autumn harvest rites among Nordaran agrarian communities. Early references appear in medieval Nordaran chronicles, while the modern practice was revived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by local guilds seeking to preserve tradition and provide economic livelihood. The revival emphasized intergenerational knowledge transfer, communal labor, and regional identity.

The festival centers on a multi-day gathering in which communities collaborate to construct a large communal kiln, organize torch-lit processions, sing in Nordaran dialects, and perform traditional dances and storytelling around fires.
