Bagaksler, commonly translated as rear axle, is the assembly at the rear of a vehicle that carries the rear wheels and transmits engine torque to them. It also supports most of the vehicle's weight.

There are two primary configurations: rigid (solid) rear axles and independent rear suspension (IRS). A rigid axle uses a single axle housing that runs across the width of the vehicle; a differential inside distributes torque to the two axle shafts. In IRS, each rear wheel is attached to its own upright and driven by half-shafts, with wheels controlled independently by the suspension.

Key components include the axle housing, differential gearset, axle shafts or half-shafts, wheel hubs, bearings and seals, and suspension attachments (leaf springs, coil springs, or air suspension). Brakes are often mounted on the wheel hubs or integrated with the axle assembly.

Operation: torque from the driveshaft reaches the differential, then to the axle shafts, to the wheels. The axle also carries the vehicle’s weight and allows steering in some layouts. In a rigid axle, the whole housing moves with the wheels; in IRS, wheels move independently, improving ride comfort.

Maintenance: check differential oil, inspect seals, bearings, and brakes; ensure proper lubrication and torque settings; watch for leaks, unusual noises, or excessive tire wear. The choice between configurations affects ride quality, towing capability, and handling.
