axloqiy
Axloqiy is an Uzbek adjective meaning moral or ethical, relating to the concept of ethics in social behavior. It is derived from axloq (morals, conduct) with the suffix -iy to form a descriptive adjective. The root traces to Arabic akhlaq (morals) and has been integrated into Uzbek vocabulary through Persian and Turkic linguistic contact. The word is used to describe actions, norms, institutions, or individuals that comply with established moral standards. Examples include axloqiy qadriyatlar (moral values) and axloqiy nuqtai nazar (ethical perspective). Related terms include axloqiylik (moral character, morality), axloqsiz (immoral), and axloqsizlik (immorality). In Central Asia, discussions of axloq are common in both religious and secular discourse; morality is often linked to honesty, hospitality, respect for elders, and communal responsibility, with Islamic ethics influencing normative expectations while modern civic ethics also play a role.
