Avtalsrelation is a legal concept describing the relationship that arises between parties when they enter into a contract. It creates mutual obligations and rights, such as what each party must do, deliver, pay, or refrain from doing. Avtalsrelation can be established by written agreement, oral agreement, or by conduct and customary practice.

Formation and scope: A contract typically requires an offer and acceptance and an intention to create legal relations. In Swedish law, contract formation can be governed by general rules in contract law and by sector-specific legislation. The parties may have freedom to shape terms, but mandatory rules and consumer protection provisions limit this freedom in certain contexts. Contracts can be express (clearly stated) or implied by the circumstances or by law.
