An auðlindahagkerfi, or resource-based economy, is a hypothetical economic system where all goods and services are available without the use of money, credits, tokens, barter, or any other system of debt or servitude. In this system, natural resources are declared the common heritage of all people on Earth. Management and distribution of these resources and the goods and services produced are handled through a global, intelligent, and automated system.

The concept proposes that technological advancement and automation can allow for the production and distribution of goods and services to meet everyone's needs, eliminating poverty and scarcity. Decisions about resource allocation and production would ideally be made based on scientific methods and data, rather than market forces or political ideologies. The goal is to create a sustainable and equitable society where human survival and well-being are prioritized over profit.

Proponents suggest that a resource-based economy would lead to increased efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and greater overall human freedom. Critics, however, raise concerns about the feasibility of such a system, the challenges of transitioning from current economic models, and potential issues related to human motivation and governance in a moneyless society. The concept remains largely theoretical, with no large-scale implementation to date.
