atriumok

Atriomok is a Hungarian term that refers to the plural form of atrium, and is used in two main domains: human anatomy and architecture. In anatomy, atriumok denote the atria, the two upper chambers of the heart. In architecture and design, atria are large, often open or semi-open interior spaces within buildings, typically designed to bring light and air to the interior.

In cardiovascular anatomy, the right atrium receives deoxygenated blood from the body through the superior and inferior vena cavae and the coronary sinus. Its wall includes the sinus venarum and a muscular appendage called the right atrial auricle; the chamber communicates with the right ventricle via the tricuspid valve. The left atrium receives oxygenated blood from the four pulmonary veins; its wall is mostly smooth, and it, too, contains an auricle. Blood moves from each atrium to the corresponding ventricle through the atrioventricular valves—the tricuspid on the right and the mitral on the left. The interatrial septum separates the two atria, and in fetal life the foramen ovale provides a flow pathway that normally closes after birth, forming the fossa ovalis. The atria serve as reservoirs and contribute to ventricular filling, with electrical impulses coordinating their contraction.

Clinically, atrial enlargement or atrial fibrillation can have significant consequences, including increased risk of stroke due to thrombus formation, particularly in the left atrial appendage. Treatments may involve anticoagulation, rhythm or rate control, and ablation in some cases.

In architecture, an atrium is a central open space within a building, often spanning multiple floors and capped with a skylight. Atriums are used to improve natural light, ventilation, and spatial perception, and they remain a characteristic feature of many historic and contemporary structures. Etymologically, the term derives from Latin atrium, meaning a main room or entrance hall.
