ataktychos
Ataktychos is a term derived from Ancient Greek, meaning "irregular" or "unsettled." It is most commonly encountered in the context of historical military formations. An ataktychos unit was one that did not adhere to the standard, disciplined, and organized structures of a regular army. These units might have been composed of mercenaries, tribal levies, or other irregular forces whose loyalty, training, or equipment deviated from the norm.
The use of ataktychos forces was prevalent throughout antiquity and into the medieval period. While regular
