Asünkroonmootor, also known as an induction motor, is a type of alternating current (AC) electric motor. It operates on the principle of electromagnetic induction to produce torque. The motor consists of two main parts: a stator and a rotor. The stator is the stationary part and contains a set of windings that are connected to an AC power source. This creates a rotating magnetic field. The rotor is the rotating part and typically consists of a cylindrical core with conductive bars or windings embedded in it.

When the rotating magnetic field from the stator sweeps across the rotor conductors, it induces a voltage in them. This induced voltage, in turn, drives a current through the rotor conductors. The interaction between the rotor current and the stator's magnetic field generates a torque, causing the rotor to spin. Crucially, the rotor rotates at a speed slightly slower than the rotating magnetic field, hence the term "asynchronous." This difference in speed is known as slip and is essential for the motor's operation, as it ensures continuous induction of current in the rotor.

Asünkroonmootors are widely used in various industrial and domestic applications due to their robust construction, reliability, relatively low cost, and simple design. They are commonly found in pumps, fans, compressors, conveyors, and many other machines. Their performance can be controlled by varying the frequency and voltage of the AC power supply, or by using specialized electronic drives.
