Associere, often written as asociere in Romanian, is a concept in civil-law and business contexts referring to the act of joining two or more actors to pursue a common objective, or to the organizational arrangement that results from that process. The term derives from Latin associatio and denotes partnership, alliance, or collaboration. In Romanian usage, asociere can indicate both the process of forming alliances and the resulting structure, which may be informal or formal.

Forms and scope: Asocierea covers a range of arrangements. It can refer to informal collaborations among individuals, as well as to formal structures such as asociații (non-profit associations) or contractual arrangements like asociere în participațiune (joint ventures). Some forms of asociere do not create a separate legal entity, operating instead on contract between the parties; others culminate in a legal entity governed by statutes and regulatory oversight.

Governance and regulation: An asociere is usually founded by an act or statute specifying its purpose, membership, governance bodies, decision procedures, and financial rules. When it takes the form of an association, it may be subject to registration, reporting, and accountability requirements set by national law. Contractual asociere is governed by the agreement among participants and by applicable civil or commercial law rather than by a dedicated corporate statute.

Context and examples: The concept is widely used in professional, civic, and commercial contexts—professional associations, neighborhood or community groups, and cross-border alliances or joint ventures between companies.
