aromatasehæmmer
Aromatasehæmmere are a class of drugs used primarily in the treatment of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women. They work by blocking the action of an enzyme called aromatase. Aromatase is responsible for converting androgens into estrogens. In postmenopausal women, the ovaries no longer produce significant amounts of estrogen, and the adrenal glands and fatty tissues become the main sources. Aromatase in these tissues converts precursor hormones into estrogen, which can fuel the growth of estrogen-sensitive breast cancer cells. By inhibiting aromatase, these drugs reduce the amount of estrogen in the body, thereby slowing or stopping the growth of these tumors.
There are several types of aromatase inhibitors, broadly categorized into steroidal and non-steroidal. Non-steroidal aromatase inhibitors
