Because the term is not standardized, its meaning varies by industry: in some electrical switchgear applications, an arclamp refers to a mounting or support fixture integrated into arc-control assemblies; in lighting and laboratory apparatus, it may denote a clamp that holds arc-containing tubes or electrodes in alignment.

In switchgear and high-voltage equipment, arclamps are part of the arc management subsystem. They help position arc horns, arc chutes, or other arc-control features relative to stationary or moving contacts and may provide insulation or heat-resistance as part of the arc chamber.
