Arboeisen are the legally required standards for workplace health and safety in the Netherlands. They aim to protect workers from risks and ill health by requiring employers to identify hazards and implement preventive measures. Arboeisen are established in the Arbeidsomstandighedenwet (Arbowet) and implemented through the Arbobesluit and related sector regulations.

The core obligations include conducting a risk inventory and evaluation (RI&E) and deriving a plan van aanpak to address identified risks. Employers must provide information, instruction and training about hazards and safe work practices; ensure safe working conditions, machinery, processes and substances; and supply appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) where needed.

Ergonomics, noise and vibration control, chemical safety, fire safety, emergency procedures, and safe handling of equipment are typical focus areas. Sector-specific rules may impose additional requirements in construction, healthcare, or manufacturing.

Employees or their safety representatives should be involved in safety decisions; incident and near-miss reporting is encouraged, with corrective actions implemented. Documentation, record-keeping and regular reviews are part of compliance.

Enforcement is carried out by the Dutch Labour Inspectorate (Inspectie SZW). Non-compliance can lead to enforcement actions, fines, or orders to mitigate unsafe conditions. The arboeisen thus promote ongoing risk assessment, prevention, training and continuous improvement of workplace safety and health.
