In women, elevated androgen levels can contribute to conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which can cause irregular periods, acne, and excessive hair growth. Androgen receptors are found throughout the body, and their activation by androgens influences gene expression, leading to these diverse effects.
