analogové

Analogový is an adjective used in Czech (and Slovak) to describe concepts related to analog as opposed to digital. The term derives from Greek analogos and Latin analogus, and in everyday language it denotes a continuous variation or representation that preserves the physical quantity's continuity.

In electronics and signal processing, a typical usage is analogový signál, a signal whose amplitude and other properties can vary smoothly over time. This contrasts with digitální signál, which is defined only at discrete levels or steps. Analog signals may be affected by noise and distortion, and their quality depends on the fidelity of the transmission medium and the circuitry involved.

Analogové systems include components such as analogové měniče, rádia, telefony, hodiny and video systems that convey information in a continuous form. Analogové hodiny display time with hands moving continuously, whereas digitální hodiny show discrete numerals. In media, analogový záznamy like vinyl records and magnetic tapes reproduce sound in a continuous waveform, while digital formats encode the sound as samples.

Historicky, analog methods dominated early electronics, measurement and control. With advances in sampling and digital processing, many applications have shifted to digitální technology, yet front-end sensors and certain measurement and high-fidelity audio applications still rely on analog representation.
