Amüloosist is a medical term referring to the abnormal accumulation of amyloid proteins in organs and tissues. Amyloid is a protein that folds into an abnormal structure, which can then deposit in various parts of the body. These deposits, known as amyloid fibrils, are often insoluble and can disrupt normal organ function.

The causes of amüloosist are diverse and can be broadly categorized into primary and secondary forms. Primary amüloosist is often associated with plasma cell disorders, such as multiple myeloma, where abnormal plasma cells produce excess amyloid light chains. Secondary amüloosist, also known as reactive amüloosist, typically arises as a complication of chronic inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, or chronic infections. There are also hereditary forms of amüloosist, caused by genetic mutations that lead to the production of abnormal amyloid proteins.

The symptoms of amüloosist depend on which organs are affected. Common sites of deposition include the heart, kidneys, liver, spleen, and nervous system. Cardiac amüloosist can lead to heart failure, while renal amüloosist can cause kidney damage and failure. Neurological symptoms may include numbness, weakness, or pain. Diagnosis typically involves a biopsy of affected tissue to identify amyloid deposits, often aided by specific staining techniques. Treatment strategies aim to manage the underlying cause, reduce amyloid production, and alleviate symptoms.
