amperios

Amperios is the plural form of amperio, the SI unit of electric current. In English-language texts the unit is called ampere, with the symbol A, and its plural is amperes. The term amperios is used in Spanish and other languages that follow similar nomenclature to refer to currents measured in amperes.

Definition and modern basis. The ampere is one of the seven SI base units. Since 2019, it is defined by fixing the elementary charge e to exactly 1.602176634×10^-19 coulombs. Equivalently, one ampere is the current that would cause one coulomb of electric charge to pass a given point each second. This replaces the previous definition based on magnetic force between conductors and ties the unit to fundamental constants.

Measurement and usage. Current is measured with devices called ammeters, often connected in series within a circuit. Common submultiples include the milliampere (mA) and microampere (µA). In practical engineering, amperios describe the operating currents of circuits, power supplies, and electronic components, and are related to voltage and resistance through Ohm’s law: I = V/R, and to electrical power through P = VI or P = I^2R.

Context and naming. The unit honors André-Marie Ampère, a pioneering French physicist in the study of electromagnetism. While English texts use the term ampere, many Spanish-speaking sources use amperio with amperios as the plural form. In all languages, the concept remains a fundamental measure of the rate of charge flow.
