Ammoniumszulfát is the German name for ammonium sulfate, an inorganic salt with the chemical formula (NH4)2SO4. It is a white, crystalline solid that is highly soluble in water. Ammonium sulfate is primarily used as a fertilizer because it provides both nitrogen and sulfur, two essential nutrients for plant growth. The nitrogen content is approximately 21%, and the sulfur content is around 24%.

In agriculture, ammonium sulfate is often preferred for its ability to acidify the soil, which can be beneficial for certain crops. It is also used as a food additive, where it acts as a dough conditioner in bread making and as an acidity regulator. In other industrial applications, it finds use as a flame retardant, in the production of pharmaceuticals, and as a component in some pesticides. It is produced industrially by reacting ammonia with sulfuric acid. When heated to high temperatures, it decomposes, releasing toxic gases.
