Amidiryhmä is a term used in Finnish chemistry to refer to the amide functional group. The amide group is a key structural feature in organic chemistry and biochemistry. It consists of a carbonyl group (C=O) bonded to a nitrogen atom. This linkage is formed through a condensation reaction between a carboxylic acid and an amine.

The amide functional group is characterized by its planar structure due to resonance between the carbonyl oxygen and the nitrogen atom. This resonance gives the C-N bond some double-bond character, making it stronger and shorter than a typical single bond, and also restricts rotation around it.
