Amblyops is a genus of small, blind cavefish belonging to the family Amblyopsidae. There is only one species in this genus, Amblyops crocodila, commonly known as the Ozark blind cavefish. This fish is found in subterranean waters of the Ozark Mountains in the United States, specifically in parts of Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma.

The Ozark blind cavefish is characterized by its depigmented body, making it appear pale or translucent. It lacks functional eyes, which is a common adaptation for life in perpetually dark environments. Instead, it possesses a highly developed lateral line system and other sensory organs to detect vibrations and chemical cues in its surroundings, aiding in navigation and prey detection.

This species typically inhabits clear, cool, and oxygen-rich cave streams and pools. Its diet consists mainly of small invertebrates such as crustaceans and insect larvae that also live in these cave ecosystems. Reproduction in Amblyops crocodila is believed to involve internal fertilization, though detailed information on their breeding habits is limited due to their elusive nature.
