aluminiumsilicon
Aluminiumsilicon, commonly referred to as an aluminum-silicon alloy or silumin, is a class of aluminum alloys in which silicon is the primary alloying element. In practical casting alloys, silicon content typically ranges from roughly 7 to 12 percent, with the eutectic composition near about 12.6 percent Si. The binary Al–Si system provides excellent fluidity, low melting point, and good castability for complex shapes.
The microstructure of Al–Si alloys consists of an aluminum-rich matrix with silicon present as hard particles
Many Al–Si casting alloys (notably the 4xxx series) are not strongly heat-treatable by conventional precipitation hardening;
Common applications include engine blocks, cylinder heads, pistons, pump housings, valve covers, and other cast components
