Alumiinialujoite is a Finnish term that translates to "aluminum conductor" in English. It refers to electrical conductors made primarily from aluminum. Aluminum is a popular material for electrical transmission and distribution lines due to its low cost and light weight compared to copper. While aluminum has higher electrical resistance than copper, its lower density means that for the same conductivity, an aluminum conductor can be significantly lighter and cheaper.

There are several types of aluminum conductors used in the electrical industry. The most common is Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR), which consists of a core of high-strength steel wires for mechanical strength, surrounded by layers of aluminum strands for electrical conductivity. Another type is All Aluminum Conductor (AAC), which is made entirely of aluminum strands and is used in situations where lighter weight and lower cost are prioritized over high tensile strength, such as in urban areas with shorter spans. Aluminum Alloy Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR/AW) is similar to ACSR but uses aluminum-clad steel for the core, offering improved corrosion resistance. All Aluminum Alloy Conductor (AAAC) uses aluminum alloy strands, providing better conductivity and tensile strength than AAC.

The use of aluminum conductors is widespread globally, especially for overhead power lines. However, aluminum's tendency to oxidize and its susceptibility to creep under sustained load can pose challenges, requiring specialized connectors and installation techniques to ensure reliable electrical connections and long-term performance.
