alsoRail

alsoRail is a platform and data standard for rail travel information and planning. It aims to enable cross-operator itinerary planning, real-time updates, and fare data integration for consumer apps, travel agencies, and railway operators. The project emphasizes interoperability, using a shared data model for stations, services, timetables, fares and disruptions, and provides APIs and data feeds for developers. The ecosystem consists of reference implementations, documentation, and community-driven tooling that can be integrated into journey planners and ticketing services. Adoption includes several regional operators and independent developers who have implemented or prototyped alsoRail-compatible interfaces, enabling smoother multi-operator search and better accuracy of schedules. The project is maintained by a community consortium and follows open standards to reduce fragmentation in railway data. As a result, alsoRail aims to simplify data exchange, improve user experience for travelers, and encourage innovation in rail-based travel services.
