alsóeset

Alsóeset is a term that may be encountered in Hungarian-language texts, but it is not a standard term in contemporary linguistics. Literally, it combines the words “alsó” (lower) and “eset” (case or form), which can lead to confusion with the well-established names of grammatical cases. In standard Hungarian grammar the named cases include alanyeset (nominative), tárgyeset (accusative), részeseset (dative), birtokos eset (genitive), and several other inflectional forms. There is no widely accepted category officially known as alsóeset. If the expression appears, it is usually a nonstandard shorthand, a misnomer, or part of a historic or dialectal description rather than an established term.

In typography and orthography, Hungarian typically distinguishes lowercase and uppercase letters as kisbetűk and nagybetűk, respectively. The phrase alsóeset is not the conventional term for the lowercase form, and its appearance in discussions of letter case is generally regarded as incorrect or archaic.
