allungatoa
allungatoa is a genus of extinct marine reptiles that lived during the Late Jurassic period, approximately 150 million years ago. Fossils attributed to this genus have been found in sedimentary rock formations across the continental shelf of present-day South Africa, as well as in the western Pacific. The name derives from the Greek words allumneos, meaning “elongated”, and katos, meaning “to sprawl”, a reference to the distinctive long, low body plan exhibited by the species.
