Allekirjoittajat (Finnish for "signatories") are individuals, organizations, or states that formally affix a signature to a document, agreement, or treaty. The act of signing signifies the signatory’s acceptance, endorsement, or obligation under the terms of the document. In legal contexts, a signature is a binding act, and in diplomatic practice it often conveys the status of a party to an international agreement.

In treaty law, each state party is referred to as a signatory until it deposits its instrument of ratification or acceptance, after which it becomes a party. The Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties (1969) defines the processes for signing, ratifying, and accessions. The initial signing demonstrates a willingness to negotiate and, in some cases, provisional acceptance, yet it does not create full legal obligations until ratification internal procedures are completed.

Corporate and civil documents also use the term signatory for a person who signs on behalf of a company or organization. Company law requires that the signatory's authority be properly documented, often through board minutes or written resolutions. In financial institutions, signatories on accounts must be verified under KYC regulations.

The role of the signatory is vital in ensuring the authenticity and enforceability of agreements. Tools such as electronic signature standards (e.g., eIDAS in the European Union) provide legal frameworks that recognize digital signatures as equivalent to handwritten ones when certain security and authentication criteria are met.

Signatories thus function as formal representatives of the parties to an agreement, their signatures serving as legally significant indicators of consent and commitment.
