Proponents suggest that alkaline water may offer health benefits, although scientific evidence supporting these claims is limited. The alkalinity of water can be naturally occurring due to dissolved minerals or can be artificially increased through various processes.

The opposite of alkaline is acidic. When an acid and an alkaline substance are mixed in the right proportions, they can cancel each other out, a process known as neutralization. This chemical reaction is fundamental to many industrial processes and biological functions.
