Aldosteronfreisetzung refers to the process by which the hormone aldosterone is released from the adrenal glands. Aldosterone is a steroid hormone produced by the zona glomerulosa of the adrenal cortex. Its primary function is to regulate blood pressure and electrolyte balance in the body. The release of aldosterone is tightly controlled by several factors.

The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) is the most significant regulator of aldosterone secretion. When blood pressure or blood volume drops, the kidneys release an enzyme called renin. Renin then initiates a cascade of reactions that leads to the production of angiotensin II. Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor and also directly stimulates the adrenal cortex to release aldosterone.

Other factors influencing aldosteronfreisetzung include potassium levels in the blood. Elevated serum potassium directly stimulates aldosterone release, as aldosterone promotes potassium excretion by the kidneys. Conversely, low potassium levels inhibit its release. Sodium levels also play a role; high sodium concentrations tend to suppress aldosterone secretion, while low sodium can stimulate it, although this effect is less potent than that of potassium or the RAAS.

Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), a hormone released by the heart in response to increased blood volume, generally inhibits aldosterone secretion. This acts as a counter-regulatory mechanism to help reduce blood volume and pressure. The overall effect of aldosterone is to increase sodium and water reabsorption in the kidneys, which in turn increases blood volume and blood pressure. It also promotes potassium excretion.
