alapképzésként

Alapképzésként is a term used in Hungarian higher education to designate the first cycle of tertiary studies, corresponding to the bachelor’s level within the Bologna Process. Programs described as alapképzésként provide a broad, foundational education and lead to a bachelor’s degree (such as BA or BSc) or an equivalent qualification.

Most alapképzés programs last three to four years and award 180–240 ECTS credits. They typically combine compulsory core subjects with elective courses and usually include a final project, thesis, or practical component. The aim is to prepare graduates for professional entry or for further study at the master’s level.

Admission to alapképzés programs generally requires the completion of secondary education and the érettségi (school leaving exam). Some fields may require additional entrance tests or portfolio assessments.

Graduates of alapképzés képzés programs may enter the labor market in a variety of professions or continue their studies in a master’s program (mesterképzés), which typically lasts one to two years and leads to a master’s degree. Progression beyond the master’s cycle to doctoral training (doktori képzés) is also possible. This structure aligns with the wider European higher education framework, enabling credit transfer and recognition across countries.

In official documents, alapképzésként is used to describe curricula, degrees, or accreditation that are organized as first-cycle, undergraduate training. The term helps distinguish bachelor-level education from second-cycle master’s programs within the Hungarian higher education system.
