Abu Abdur-Rahman Ahmad ibn Husayn al-Bayhaqi, commonly known as al-Bayhaqi, was a Persian Sunni Muslim scholar of the Shafi'i school of jurisprudence and hadith. He was born in 994 CE in the village of Bayhaq, near Nishapur, in Khorasan. Al-Bayhaqi is widely recognized for his extensive contributions to Islamic scholarship, particularly in the field of hadith.

His most famous works include the "Sunan al-Kubra" and "Al-Asma wa al-Sifat." The "Sunan al-Kubra" is a comprehensive collection of prophetic traditions, organized according to Islamic jurisprudence, making it a valuable resource for understanding the practical application of Sharia. His other significant work, "Al-Asma wa al-Sifat," deals with the divine names and attributes of Allah. Al-Bayhaqi was known for his meticulous approach to hadith authentication, employing rigorous methods to assess the reliability of narrators and chains of transmission.

Al-Bayhaqi studied under numerous prominent scholars of his time and traveled extensively to acquire knowledge. He held positions as a judge and teacher, influencing many students who later became renowned scholars themselves. His intellectual legacy continues to be studied and respected by Muslims worldwide, and his works remain foundational texts in Islamic jurisprudence and hadith studies. He passed away in 1066 CE.
