Bayhaq
Bayhaq is a historical region located in present-day Iran, primarily within the modern province of Khorasan Razavi. It was a significant administrative and cultural center during various Islamic caliphates and dynasties, including the Samanids, Ghaznavids, and Seljuks. The region was known for its agricultural productivity and strategic importance along trade routes. Its name is often associated with the city of Sabzevar, which served as a prominent urban center within Bayhaq. Historical sources mention Bayhaq as a hub for scholarship and religious learning, attracting scholars and contributing to the intellectual life of the wider Persianate world. The decline of its prominence is often linked to the Mongol invasions and subsequent political shifts in the region. While no longer a distinct political entity, the historical legacy of Bayhaq is preserved in geographical and historical accounts, underscoring its past importance in the history of Persia.
