aikadynaamiset

Aikadynaamiset are dynamical systems and processes in which the governing rules and parameters change with time. The term, used in Finnish scientific writing, covers non-autonomous or time-dependent dynamics where the evolution equation explicitly involves time. This contrasts with autonomous dynamics, whose rules are time-invariant.

Mathematically, such systems can be written as dx/dt = f(t, x) in continuous time, or x_{t+1} = F_t(x_t) in discrete time. The time dependence may arise from seasonal forcing, external inputs, or slowly varying parameters. Consequently, solutions depend on time and on the history of the changing parameters.

Common examples include population models with seasonal birth rates, climate-driven processes, driven oscillators, and control systems with time-varying gains. Temporal networks, where connections change over time, are a related area in aikadynaamiset.
