Aeoliska, in a linguistic sense, refers to the Aeolic Greek dialects, a branch of Ancient Greek named after Aeolis, a region on the western coast of Asia Minor. The term also covers related varieties spoken in adjacent areas, including Boeotia, Thessaly, and the island of Lesbos, collectively known as the Aeolic dialect cluster. Aeolic dialects were in use from the early first millennium BCE through the classical period, and are best documented in lyric poetry and inscriptions.
