Adenoidok, also spelled adenoidokinesia, is a rare clinical phenomenon where the adenoids, a pair of gland-like bodies located in the back of the throat, are completely removed or atrophied, leading to the atrophy of surrounding tissues. This condition is often associated with various pathologies, including autoimmune disorders, chronic infections, and tumors.

Historically, adenoidok has been observed in patients with conditions such as adenoid cancer, where large portions of the adenoids are excised, resulting in significant atrophy. In some cases, adenoidok can also occur as a result of autoimmune reactions, where the immune system mistakenly attacks the adenoid tissue, leading to its destruction.

The clinical presentation of adenoidok can vary widely depending on the underlying cause and the extent of adenoid atrophy. Some patients may experience symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, nasal regurgitation, and breathing difficulties, while others may be asymptomatic. In some cases, adenoidok can lead to complications such as chronic sinusitis, otitis media, and sleep apnea.

Diagnosis of adenoidok typically involves a combination of clinical evaluation, imaging studies, and histopathological examination. Imaging modalities such as MRI and CT scans can help identify adenoid atrophy and its extent, while biopsy samples may be obtained to confirm the presence of adenoid tissue.

Treatment of adenoidok depends on the underlying cause and the extent of disease. In some cases, conservative management may be sufficient, while in others, surgical intervention may be necessary to address complications such as nasal regurgitation or chronic sinusitis.
