addisjons

Addisjons is a term used in some contexts to refer to the mathematical operation of combining quantities to produce a sum. It is commonly equated with addition. In Norwegian, the standard term is addisjon (singular) and addisjoner (plural). The form addisjons is not standard in Norwegian but may appear in non-standard usage or as a variant in other languages. The operation, called addition, is a binary operation on numbers and many mathematical objects, with the result called the sum. The key properties are commutativity (a + b = b + a) and associativity (a + (b + c) = (a + b) + c). The additive identity is 0, since a + 0 = a for any number a. In computer science and notation, the operation is written with a plus sign, +, and can be extended to vectors and matrices as component-wise addition.

Historically, addition is among the oldest mathematical concepts, reflected in ancient numeral systems. It has been formalized within axiomatic frameworks, such as the Peano axioms for natural numbers, and generalized to other algebraic structures, including groups and rings, where the operation is defined with appropriate properties.
