The absorbabelt is a belt-like wearable device designed to capture and contain absorbable substances or energy from the wearer’s environment. The term encompasses several implementations, including sorption-based belts that collect liquids or gases, and energy-absorbing belts that harvest and store energy from motion, heat, or light.

Construction involves a flexible substrate integrated with sorbent media or energy-harvesting components. Sorption variants use porous polymers, activated carbon, zeolites, silica gels, or hydrogels arranged in pads or microchannels along the belt. Energy-absorbing versions may incorporate thin-film photovoltaics, piezoelectric layers, or micro-supercapacitors, connected to a compact storage unit and control electronics.

Operating principles vary by class. In sorption designs, target substances diffuse into the sorbent and are retained until regeneration or disposal. In energy designs, mechanical motion or ambient energy is converted into electrical energy and stored for later use. Some models include sensing elements for moisture, chemicals, or temperature, providing feedback to regulate absorption or to trigger alerts.

Applications for absorbabelts include industrial spill containment, personal protective equipment in hazardous environments, environmental monitoring, and disaster response. Their wearable form factor aims to enable hands-free sorption and energy collection in confined or dynamic work settings.

Limitations center on capacity and regeneration requirements, weight and comfort, odor management, skin compatibility, and disposal of spent materials. As a concept, absorbabelts remain largely experimental, with ongoing research focusing on material durability, safety, and integration with other wearable technologies.
