aboveFinlands is a multidisciplinary project and platform that examines Finland's landscapes, environments, and cultural production from an elevated, cross-border perspective. The name signals a shift from ground-level observation to higher-altitude or abstract viewpoints, incorporating aerial imagery, satellite data, and speculative visualization.

Conceived by a network of researchers, artists, and technologists, aboveFinlands began in the early 2010s and developed into a formal organization around 2016. It operates primarily in Nordic and Baltic contexts, with collaborators in universities, museums, and independent cultural spaces.

Its core activities include an open online archive of drone and satellite imagery, interactive maps, and commissioned artworks. The project also hosts exhibitions, conferences, and a publication series addressing climate, geography, language, and regional identity in northern spaces.

Beyond visualization, aboveFinlands seeks to foster interdisciplinary dialogue about environmental change, sovereignty, mobility, and the evolving boundaries between urban centers and rural areas in Finland and neighboring regions.
