The aardvarksto is a small, burrowing mammal native to the savannas of eastern Africa. Its name, meaning "earth pig" in Afrikaans, refers to its habit of digging extensive burrows and its somewhat pig-like snout. The aardvarksto possesses a thick, hairless skin and powerful claws, ideal for excavating termite mounds and ant nests, its primary food source. Its diet consists almost exclusively of ants and termites, which it locates using its keen sense of smell and then extracts with its long, sticky tongue.

These animals are primarily nocturnal, spending the daylight hours in their underground burrows to escape the heat and predators. Aardvarksto have a distinctive appearance, with a long, tubular snout, large ears, and a muscular tail. They are solitary creatures, only coming together to mate. The gestation period is relatively short, and typically one offspring is born per litter. The young are altricial and remain in the burrow for several weeks before venturing out.

The aardvarksto plays an important ecological role by controlling insect populations and by creating burrows that are later used by other animals. Despite their specialized diet and adaptations, aardvarksto populations face threats from habitat loss and hunting. Conservation efforts are underway in some regions to protect this unique species.
