aanraakt

Aanraakt is not a standard Dutch spelling for a standalone word. In normal modern Dutch, the present-tense form of the verb aanraken is written with a space: hij/zij/het raakt aan (you could also say ik raak aan, jij raakt aan, wij raken aan, etc.). The infinitive is aanraken, and the past participle is aangeraakt. The verb means to touch something physically, and it can also be used figuratively to mean to affect or to come into contact with something non-physical.

Etymologically, aanraken is formed from raken (to touch) with the prefix aan-, which adds the sense of making contact with a surface or thing. In sentences, Dutch often places the object before the particle aan when the object is long or when emphasis requires it, for example: Hij raakt dagelijks de muur aan. The particle aan typically remains attached to the verb, but in finite tenses it is separated from the main verb in standard word order.

Usage and senses can be both literal and figurative. Literally, it describes touching a physical object: Hij raakt de deurklink aan. Figuratively, it can describe coming into contact with feelings or issues: De muziek raakt mij diep aan. The term can also appear in expressions like “eraan raken,” depending on context, though this construction might vary regionally.
