Aaltopaketti is a Finnish term that translates to "wave package" or "wave packet." In physics, it refers to a localized wave disturbance that can be thought of as a single entity. Unlike a continuous, infinitely extended wave, a wave packet is confined to a specific region of space. This localization is achieved by superimposing (adding together) multiple waves of different frequencies and wavelengths.

The concept of a wave packet is crucial in quantum mechanics. According to quantum theory, particles like electrons can exhibit wave-like behavior. A free-moving particle is often described as a wave packet.
