Zsírtalanítók, also known as degreasers, are chemical substances or formulations designed to remove grease, oil, and other fatty contaminants from surfaces. They are widely used in various industrial, commercial, and household applications. The effectiveness of a degreaser depends on its chemical properties and the type of grease it is intended to remove.

There are several types of degreasers based on their active ingredients. Solvent-based degreasers utilize organic solvents that dissolve grease and oil. These can be effective but may also be flammable or release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the atmosphere. Water-based degreasers, often alkaline or acidic, work by emulsifying or saponifying grease, allowing it to be washed away with water. Emulsification breaks down grease into smaller droplets, while saponification converts fats into soap-like substances. Detergents and surfactants are common components in water-based degreasers, aiding in the lifting and dispersion of oily residues.

Common applications for degreasers include cleaning machinery and equipment in manufacturing, preparing surfaces for painting or coating, removing automotive grease and grime, and general household cleaning of kitchen surfaces and appliances. The choice of degreaser often depends on the material being cleaned to avoid damage, the type and severity of the contamination, and environmental or safety regulations. Proper ventilation and personal protective equipment are often recommended when using degreasing agents, especially solvent-based ones.
