Zonesis
Zonesis is a term used in the field of psychology and psychiatry to describe a state of altered consciousness characterized by a sense of detachment from one's physical body and surroundings. This phenomenon is often associated with near-death experiences, out-of-body experiences, and certain forms of meditation. Individuals experiencing zonesis may report feelings of euphoria, a sense of peace, and a profound connection to the universe or a higher power.
The term was popularized by the psychologist Raymond Moody in his 1975 book "Life After Life." Moody
Zonesis is not to be confused with out-of-body experiences (OBEs), although the two phenomena share some similarities.
The scientific community has shown varying degrees of interest in zonesis, with some researchers exploring its
