Zlatnik
Zlatnik is a term in Serbo-Croatian and related South Slavic languages that means "gold coin." In historical contexts it refers to several kinds of gold coins minted in the medieval and early modern Balkans. Zlatniks circulated in principalities and kingdoms such as Serbia, Bosnia, and Croatia, as well as in Dalmatian city-states and border regions under broader influences, including Venetian and Hungarian powers. They functioned as high-value currency, complementing silver and copper coinage, and were used for large payments, tribute, and international exchange.
The coins were struck at various mints and their weight, fineness, and design varied by issuing authority
In modern usage, zlatnik remains the standard word for a gold coin in several South Slavic languages.
