Zhengzhou

Zhengzhou is the capital and largest city of Henan Province in central China. Located in the northern part of Henan on the North China Plain, the city sits near the middle reaches of the Yellow River and serves as a major transportation and logistics hub for the region.

Its area has a long history dating to ancient times. The Zhengzhou Shang City, an important archaeological site from the late Shang Dynasty, reveals the early political and urban center of the region. Throughout imperial and modern periods, Zhengzhou developed as a commercial and administrative center, and its status expanded with the construction of railways and roads in the twentieth century.

The city has evolved into a diversified economy with manufacturing, electronics, equipment and automotive parts, logistics, and modern services. It hosts facilities such as Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport and Zhengzhou East Railway Station, a major high-speed rail hub on the Beijing–Guangzhou High-Speed Railway, linking to national rail corridors and growth areas in central China.

Educational institutions include Zhengzhou University and Henan University, making the city a center for higher education in the province. Cultural attractions include the Henan Museum and nearby Dengfeng's Shaolin Temple. The city is part of the broader Central Plains urban agglomeration and hosts several cultural and historical sites.

Zhengzhou has a temperate monsoon climate with four distinct seasons, hot summers and cold winters, and annual rainfall concentrated in summer. The population of the urban area is in the multi‑million range, reflecting its role as a provincial capital and growth center.
